Raise the Age: Keep Children Out of the Adult System

Action for Children advocates for all minors (under age 18) charged with a crime to start in the juvenile justice system, with

judges retaining their current authority to transfer youth to the adult system for any felony.

North Carolina is one of only two states in the nation that prosecute all 16- and 17-year-olds charged with a crime in the adult

criminal justice system, regardless of the severity of their alleged crimes.

Below are several links to the Raise The Age Campaign and Action for Children. Please, if you are over the age of 18, sign

the petition . If you are under 18, we advise you get a social worker, dss employee, adult supporter, or some other adult to sign

the petition in place of yourself so you voice can still be counted.

SaySo, Strong Able Youth Speaking Out, is a statewide association of youth aged
14 to 24 who are or have been in the out-of-home care system that is based in
North Carolina. This includes all types of substitute care, including foster care,
group homes, and mental health placements. Our mission is to work to improve
the substitute care system by educating the community, speaking out about
needed changes, and providing support to youth who are or have been in
substitute care.

ANONYMOUS on-line survey
Written by Administrator
Thursday, 15 October 2009

Please take a few minutes to complete this ANONYMOUS on-line survey.  Let your voice be heard!  This is why we are "Strong Able Youth Speaking Out"!  The link is below:

 Here's the link:    http://ceres.cals.ncsu.edu/surveybuilder/Form.cfm?TestID=7186

Here is information about the survey:

The Center for Family and Community Engagement believes the youth voice needs to be shared.  We are looking for youth who would be interested in completing an anonymous on line survey regarding their experience with foster care and Child and Family Teams.
The information shared will be used to support curriculum development for Child and Family Team training for the Division of Social Services.  Let us hear what you think would make Child and Family Teams a useful process to support youth leaving foster care or making plans to leave foster care.
